Athena succeeds because of the energy and vision of its members. A leadership, education, and support program for executive women in San Diego's life science, technology and healthcare industries.

Athena is a special membership program within UCSD Rady School of Management. Athena has its own board of directors that sets strategic direction for the organization.

Athena is completely self-supporting and relies upon member dues, corporate sponsors, and program fees to fund its staff and activities.

There are two membership categories:
Executive Member: Open to director, partner, or above in science, technology and healthcare organizations that are Athena-sponsor companies.
Associate Member: For those not yet at the director level but who are on a fast track to the executive suite in an Athena-sponsor company. Associate Membership requires sponsorship by a current Athena Executive Member.

Many of Athena's Signature Series programs are open to the public.

Athena is the premiere leadership organization for women executives in the San Diego technology, life science and healthcare sector. Athena has forged strong links with other regional and national organizations such as the San Diego Software Industry Council, BIOCOM, Society of Women Engineers, Association for Women in Science, Women in Technology International, and Catalyst.

Athena has created a number of "affinity groups" that meet regularly to discuss challenges, obstacles, issues, and concerns of specific industries or management functions.
